Let’s unwrap 12 unforgettable holiday experiences in Key West.
🌴 Day 1 — Arrival, the Historic Seaport & a Duval Stroll
Ease into island life by wandering the twinkling Historic Seaport, where sailboats shimmer with nautical Christmas lights across the water. From the seaport, stroll down Duval Street to soak in the lively music, charming shops, and festive storefronts. Stop at Flamingo Crossing for homemade ice cream, Dulce de Leche and Piña Colada are local favorites and let the warm breeze wrap around you like a welcome-home hug.
It’s the perfect beginning to your island Christmas escape.

🏖️ Day 2 — Beach Play & Seaside Dining
Spend the afternoon at Higgs Beach, a favorite for casual volleyball and pickleball (bring your own gear). With soft sand, salty air, and turquoise water stretching out before you, the day feels light and joyful. As sunset approaches, grab a beverage and wander out onto the pier… the sky lights up in pinks, oranges, purples, and reds. Then head to Salute! On The Beach for dinner steps from the shore. Twinkling lights, ocean breeze, and holiday warmth make it the perfect December evening. saluteonthebeach.com
🍳 Day 3 — Holiday Breakfast Bliss & Christmas Shopping!
Start your morning under the waterfront tiki hut at Mac’s Place!
Open daily from 9am–11pm, they’re ready whenever your breakfast begins. Their menu has something for everyone, from fresh avocado toast to hearty breakfast burritos…and the relaxed island atmosphere makes every meal feel like vacation.
Mac’s Place is a go-to spot all day long, especially during their generous 3pm–6pm Happy Hour, featuring a special $10 menu. Known for serving the best burger on the island, they truly deliver deliciousness across the board.
And if you’re bringing your furry companion, you’re in luck, they also offer a dedicated pup menu, so your four-legged friend can enjoy a treat by the water too! We love them for so many reasons, and this is definitely one of them!
Throughout your stay, enjoy breakfast the Key West way: island-inspired dishes at Moondog Café & Bakery and Blue Heaven, where chickens roam, pancakes tower, and a friendly game of ping-pong adds playful charm. Each brings its own version of holiday warmth…all beloved local favorites.
After breakfast, spend the day enjoying the festive shopping along the historic seaport and Duval Street for tropical treasures. Explore unique boutiques, art galleries, jewelry shops, coastal décor stores, and local businesses decorated for the season. You’ll find thoughtful holiday gifts, one-of-a-kind treasures, and charming keepsakes… all while soaking up warm breezes and the joyful energy of Old Town dressed for Christmas.
⛵ Day 4 — A Relaxing Pool Day
If your accommodation has a pool, pick up pastries, sandwiches, or charcuterie from Old Town Bakery, grab a book from Books & Books, put on some Christmas jazz, and enjoy a leisurely island day. Supporting small local businesses makes it even sweeter.
No pool? Head to Dante’s Pool Bar & Restaurant for the afternoon. Their lively pool, great drinks, classic dishes like conch fritters and fish & chips, and festive December vibe make for a perfect warm-weather holiday escape.
🍾 Day 5 — A Festive Day In Key West with Craft Cocktails, Mocktails and Music.
After breakfast, make your way to Hanks Hair of the Dog Saloon, where the festive patio, complete with an outdoor Christmas tree and glowing café lights, sets the perfect holiday mood. Just steps off Duval Street, Hank’s brings craft cocktails, lively energy, and live music every single day.
Hanks is also home to the famous Garbo’s Grill food truck, featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives for their incredible Korean tacos. You can easily settle in here for the whole afternoon if the island breeze keeps you lingering.
With friendly bartenders, delicious drinks, and a mix of locals and visitors always ready for a good conversation, Hanks is truly one of those places where you arrive for a drink and stay for the vibe.
During your stay, to enjoy some history, head over to Sloppy Joe’s, where Hemingway once enjoyed his daiquiris, and Hog’s Breath Saloon, where music legends have surprised crowds with impromptu performances (don’t skip the Key Lime Pie Martini!). Enjoy the sing-along atmosphere at Irish Kevin’s, creative cocktails at General Horseplay, and laid-back island classics like Rum Bar and The Speakeasy. Pop into Virgilio’s for nightly live music (great specials often Monday nights), enjoy a glass of wine at Grand Vin, and finish at the beloved Green Parrot.
Wrap the night with the sunset celebration at Mallory Square, mojito in hand from El Meson de Pepe, as holiday salsa music fills the warm December air.
☕ Day 6 — Coffee Crawl, Kava & a Cozy Holiday Movie
Start your day with a caffeine adventure: porch-sitting at Funky Rooster Coffee House, bold Cuban brews from Cuban Coffee Queen, a café con leche from 5 Brothers Grocery, or a calming botanical drink from Key West Kava Kava Bar where you can put your toes in the sand.
When you’re ready to slow down, slip into Tropic Cinema for a great film. The popcorn toppings bar, wine and beer selections, warm lighting, and intimate atmosphere make it the perfect December afternoon getaway and many retired locals volunteer there, making it all the more special.
😂 Day 7 — Laugh the Night Away at Comedy Key West
Treat yourself to a night of holiday laughter at Comedy Key West, where national touring comedians and witty local talent take the stage. The cozy room and lively energy make it one of the most joyful nights out during December, perfect for couples, friend groups, or families with older kids. And by day? They’re a cozy coffee house. Check their calendar for events, because there’s frequently something fun on the schedule.

🚂 Day 8 — Conch Tour Train Christmas Lights (Tours All December)
Hop aboard the festive Conch Tour Train and glide through Old Town’s most beautifully decorated neighborhoods. Palm trees wrapped in lights, glowing porches, tropical décor, and colorful historic homes transform the island into a whimsical Christmas village. Because tours run on select December dates, be sure to check ahead, it’s a holiday favorite worth planning around.
🎡 Day 9 — Jeep Adventure Up the Keys
Rent a Jeep from Key West Adventures and take a scenic drive up the Keys. Stop at Bahia Honda State Park, or keep cruising over the iconic Seven Mile Bridge, feeling the freedom of open road and endless blue water. Feeling extra adventurous? Skydive Key West turns any holiday into a thrill ride. The aerial views are breathtaking, the team is welcoming, and honestly, get the photo package, it is absolutely worth it!!
🏰 Day 10 — A Peaceful Christmas Beach Day at Fort Zach
Spend a sunlit, peaceful day at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. Light food, snacks and beverages are available for purchase, along with snorkel and beach chair rentals. Snorkel straight from shore, explore the historic fort, grill or picnic under whispering pines and stay for one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island. Pro tip: bring trash bags as you will have to take trash with you out of the park.

🛻 Day 11 — Decorated Golf Cart Ride, Holiday Neighborhood Lights & a Visit to the Grotto
Rent an open-air golf cart from HydroThunder, pick up decorations from CVS, and transform your ride with lights, garland, and holiday music. Then cruise through festive neighborhoods, Fleming & Southard Streets, Truman Annex, The Meadows, Casa Marina, and in the New Town area along Harris & Staples Avenues, where many locals go all out with decorations. Key West even holds a contest for the best holiday light display!
For a peaceful, reflective moment, stop by the Grotto at St. Mary Star of the Sea. Light a candle, make a Christmas wish, or remember loved ones, a gentle, heartfelt pause in the middle of your festive night.

🍽️ Holiday Highlights for Christmas Eve
For a delicious and affordable dinner, visit El Siboney for hearty Cuban comfort food — ropa vieja, roast pork, beans, and sweet plantains served in generous portions loved by locals.
For an upscale holiday dinner, reserve a sunset table at Hot Tin Roof or the elegant La Trattoria Oceanside. For years, we’d take a golf cart there for Christmas Eve dinner, stroll the Smathers Beach boardwalk afterward to walk off crème brûlée, then drive through the neighborhoods of Key West while Christmas music played on a little speaker. Porches lit up, families wave, and the warm December air feels like a gift. It’s glorious and best of all, no winter coats required.

🎄🌅 The Perfect Christmas Day in Key West
Christmas morning should be slow and dreamy. Open your windows to the warm breeze, put on holiday music, or stream a beachy Christmas playlist with palm trees and twinkle lights. Let the island set the tone for a peaceful, joy-filled day.
Reserve a festive brunch at Bagatelle, La Te Da, or Four Marlins …all warm, beautiful, and holiday-ready. Casa Marina Hotel, (once was the original Flagler Hotel) provide a wonderful Christmas Day Buffet too in their restaurant.
In the afternoon, head out on the water for the best Key West Sunset Sail: a Wind and Wine Sunset Sail with Danger Charters and enjoy a golden December glow.
