Make Room for the Key Lime Festival 

Fourth of July weekend also happens to line up with one of Key West’s most fitting events: the Key Lime Festival! 

The festival runs July 1-5, 2026, and it’s exactly the kind of celebration you would expect in Key West. It’s fun, a little quirky, and five days of pie, cocktails, contests, and citrus-filled events around town.

Here are just a few of the sweet events to keep on your radar: 

• Sloppy Joe’s Ultimate Key Lime Pie Smash Party: Things get messy at Sloppy Joe’s, where guests can donate and vote to see local personalities and Sloppy Joe’s staff take a Key lime pie to the face. It benefits The Sloppy Joe’s Foundation, so it’s a good cause with a very Key West delivery. 

• World Famous Key Lime Pie Eating Championship: This is the big one. Contestants race to eat a nine-inch Key lime pie topped with whipped cream, with no hands allowed, and the whole thing is exactly as chaotic as it sounds. 

• Key Lime Sip & Stroll: This is a fun one if you want to make your way around town and try key lime cocktails and margaritas from different participating bars. Guests get to vote for their favorite, which is a pretty easy assignment. 

• Key Lime Pie Hop: If you’re here for the pie, this is the one to look at. The Pie Hop takes you on a downtown tasting tour where you can sample different takes on key lime pie from local spots. 

• Key Lime Vendor Village: The Vendor Village is an easy daytime stop, especially if you’re already near the Southernmost Beach Café area. Expect Key lime treats, local vendors, beach games, and plenty happening before the pie eating contest. 

Some events are free, and others are ticketed, so it’s worth checking the official Key Lime Festival schedule ahead of time if there’s something you really want to do. 

Watch the Fireworks 

Of course, the main Fourth of July event is the fireworks. 

Key West’s fireworks are scheduled for July 4 at 9 PM from Edward B. Knight Pier, also known as White Street Pier. If you want to watch from land, Higgs Beach and Smathers Beach are two of the most popular spots. Just plan to get there early, because you will not be the only person with that idea, and the close parking spots fill up fast.
